Each year, in Canada and the US, we throw out the equivalent of 75 kg (165lbs) of food per person! From the resources to grow it, ship it, and produce it, to the greenhouse gases released when it breaks down in landfills, food waste is a major problem. Fortunately, with some planning, we can really cut down on the food that ends up in the trash.
Single-use plastics may only be used for a few moments, but they can harm our planet and wildlife for years. Items like straws and plastic bags take lots of resources to make, contribute to climate change, and can hurt animals when they end up in nature. Let’s help protect our planet by cutting avoidable single-use plastics out of our lives!
Thanksgiving, Halloween, Diwali, Hanukkah, Christmas…there is lots to celebrate in the autumn! Many traditional ways of celebrating can cause waste, such as wrapping paper that can’t be recycled, plastic decorations, and buying gifts. Fortunately, there are lots of ways to have just as much fun with less waste.
